Source:Xinhua   2013-9-23

NAIROBI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Daily Nation, one of the biggest newspapers in Kenya, on Monday apologized to the Chinese victim of an attack on the Nairobi shopping mall, after the Chinese Embassy to the East African country and overseas Chinese organizations protested the publication of a disrespectful photo.

"On the front page of the Sunday nation yesterday, we published a photograph of an injured victim of the Westgate terrorist attack. The picture was graphic and should not have been used," the Nation Media Group (NMG) said in a statement. "We apologize to the family of the victim and to our readers."

"We wish quick recovery for those who were injured, and offer our condolences to those who have lost their dear ones. We share the pain of those whose loved ones are still trapped in the mall, or are missing, " the newspaper said.

"NMG condemns this outrageous attack on innocent Kenyans and visitors. We shall not allow our spirit to be broken" by these violent acts.

The newspaper published a face shot photo of the Chinese victim in the front-page on Sunday, which is be seen to be disrespectful to the victim and causes discomfort to the readers.

According to the Kenyan Red Cross, the attack which started on Saturday morning has left at least 69 dead and 175 wounded.
